Beaches

Nerja has many clean sandy beaches stretching to over 13 kilometres in total, with many of them being within easy reach of the town. Characterised by steep cliffs and some with Blue Flag awards (no longer blue flag), they offer water-skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling, pedal boats, windsurfing, as well as paragliding. Water temperatures vary from 18ºC in winter to 24ºC in summer, or if you prefer to let the kids have their way, there are two aqua parks approx. 15 kms away.

To the west, the first beach Nerja has to offer is the Playa El Playazo; this is used by windsurfers and bathers alike.

The 2nd beach from the west is the Playa de la Torrecilla which is a very popular sandy beach and ideal for children, as there are many activities to choose from including banana rides, paddle boats, canoes and windsailing boats, which are all for hire. There are many restaurants offering a wide variety of refreshments, from a snack to a 3 course meal. Sun lounges are also available at a small charge.

Next to Playa del Salon you will find Playa La Caletilla. This little sandy beach is set within a cove and has that hideaway feel. It is in a perfect location for the shoppers and bathers alike.

This little hideaway is set within the cliffs and should you find this little haven you will be able to appreciate the total privacy of your own beach. If all you want to do is relax and enjoy the sun, then this could be the perfect place.

Playa de Carabeo can be found off Calle Carabeo. This beautiful part of the old town has a small balcony overlooking this sheltered cove with steps leading down. This little beach is completely surrounded by rocks.

Playa Burriana beach is the pride of Nerja (previously a European Blue flag award for safe swimming). This 800 metre beach is the largest in Nerja and has many holiday apartments and villas to rent which overlook this popular beach. There are many restaurants and cafes all easily accessible from the long promenade, some of which serve the best fish recipes on the Costa del Sol - the paella's cannot be missed!! The small coves below the impressive cliffs of Maro have been the inspiration of numerous artists and photographers alike, which make this part of town a must.
