Nerja area
Nerja is known as the "Jewel in the Crown" of the Costa del Sol. It has been widely praised in the British media as a resort that still maintains its Spanish charm despite the development of tourism. Nerja offers beaches, mountains, and almost year-round sunshine. Indeed, it is reputed to have one of the best climates in Europe. No visit is complete without a visit to the famous Nerja caves (which host an amazingly atmospheric music festival in the summer). Every Tuesday, Nerja has a thriving market.
In Nerja, you will be spoilt for choice of restaurants offering cuisine from all around the world. There are also a whole host of typical tapas bars where you can buy a drink and get a free tapa for around £1. Why not visit a few in an evening instead of dining out?

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The area around Nerja has so much to offer. Within 90 minutes' drive is the historic city of Granada with its amazing Moorish palace - the Alhambra (surely one of the most beautiful palaces in the world). You can also drive into the Sierra Nevada mountain range where it is posible to ski in the morning and be back on the beach in the afternoon!. Or you may prefer an excursion to the Alpujarra mountains immortalised by Chris Stewart in his novels "Driving over Lemons" and "Parrot in the Pepper Tree".
Malaga itself is a city often over-looked by the visitor. It has a rich history with several Moorish buildings and recently it has opened the Picasso museum to honour one of its most famous sons.
Closer to Nerja are beautiful white villages such as Frigiliana and Competa. If you prefer to keep to the coast, Almunecar (with its lovely old district) and La Herradura with its sweeping are worth a visit.

Within easy driving of Nerja there are beautiful Andalusian cities, mountain villages and coastal towns. Nerja is a lovely seaside town to the east of Malaga. The vast majority of its buildings are low-rise helping Nerja to maintain its charm. Nerja enjoys one of the best climates in Europe and therefore is an ideal year-round resort. Nerja does not close for winter!
