Nerja A popular resort, readily accessible from Malaga and its international airport, with motorway access to within a mile of the town centre.
Nestling in the foothills of the mountains, the old town, with its narrow, vehicle restricted, cobbled streets, offers a more relaxed holiday from that found in the big resorts further along the coast. With small picturesque bays, the famous 'Balcon de Europa' promenade, numerous small shops, bars and restaurants, and its wonderful all year round climate, Nerja has something for all seasons, especially for families and the more mature holiday maker.
Local Excursions the Nerja Caves, one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions, are well worth a visit. Nearby is Maro, a picturesque village with panoramic views across the sea and a small, secluded beach invisible from the cliff top.
The mountains shelter many small attractive villages, notably Frigiliana with its restored Roman town and narrow vehicle-free cobbled streets. Further afield is the historic city of Grenada with its famous Alhambra Palace (pre-booking advised). Malaga and beyond to Puerto Banus also provide a great day out, as do visits to Mijas, Antequara and the El Torcal National Park.
